In an effort to prevent vandalism and field damage from motor vehicles driving on them overnight, Falls officials this week began locking the gates at Quaker Penn Park.

The Falls Township Parks and Recreation Department announced the locked gates would go into effect on its social media accounts on Monday.

Still even with the locked gates, problems continue to persist, according to Falls Supervisors Chairman Jeff Dence. On the first night that the gates were locked, Dence said a vandal removed the locks.

“The park is closed from dusk until dawn always,” Dence said, adding that the locked gates resulted from sporadic vandalism and field damage. “That’s going to be locked for the foreseeable future.”

In other business, the township recently participated in an online electricity auction with a goal of reducing the township’s electricity rates by 18 to 20 percent.

Township Manager John Shepherd said the township beat its goal with a contracted electricity rate decrease of approximately 22 percent.
