Pennsbury’s ROTC marched into position, flags in hand, as The Men of Harmony crooned a patriotic welcome to the Falls Supervisors at their first meeting in the newly reopened public meeting room at the municipal building Monday evening.
“We kicked things off in the best way,” Supervisors Vice Chair Erin Mullen said following the show. “The performances were extraordinary.”
Besides the aesthetics of the reconstructed municipal complex, Mullen noted that the acoustics are significantly better, adding that she “can hear everyone.”
The township moved back into its municipal building last month following nearly two years of construction. Falls will officially welcome the public in for tours of the new building on Monday, March 9 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Supervisors Chairman Jeff Dence noted that the Men of Harmony began as the U.S. Steel Choir when U.S. Steel was active.
“We felt it appropriate for a town built on steel to have them here tonight,” he said.
During the meeting, the board approved two stipulation agreements to settle tax assessment appeals, which will yield an increase in school, county and municipal taxes from 2022 through at least 2026.
Both settlements came as a result of Pennsbury School District’s decision to settle the tax disputes, solicitor Mike Clarke told the board.
Effective Jan. 1, 2022 for county and township taxes and July 1, 2022 for school taxes, the Village Pennbrook 2 LLC, which is located at 9071 Mill Creek Road, will have the property’s assessment increased from $4,320,000 to $5,184,000, an increase in assessment of $864,000.
Effective Jan. 1, 2022 for county and township taxes and July 1, 2022 for school taxes, Royal Manor, which is located at 937 W. Trenton Ave., will have the property’s assessment increased from $691,560 to $829,870, an increase in assessment of $138,310.
Both agreements maintain the new assessments through at least 2026, acknowledging that the assessments will remain “unless and until there is another successful assessment appeal, a countywide reassessment, or a change as permissible under applicable law.”
