The Falls Supervisors on Monday night set the wheels in motion for a long-awaited culvert replacement project, as well as PennDOT upgrades on two roadways.
During its meeting, the board unanimously approved authorizing advertisement to seek bids for the South Olds Boulevard culvert replacement.
Township Engineer Joseph Jones told the board that the culvert replacement has been “on our books for quite a while now.” Despite the long-awaited replacement, Jones said PennDOT inspections have determined that the structure is sound.
“We don’t feel that the bridge is in any imminent failure mode,” Jones said.
Construction is expected to begin in March 2025, according to Jones. Soliciting bids now will give the township ample time to incorporate an accurate project cost into next year’s spending plan. In addition, the township is seeking grants to help fund the project, he said.
In other business, the board approved two items related to PennDOT construction in Falls. The first was an offer from PennDOT to pay the township $71,000 for the right-of-way needed to complete ongoing road improvements near Wawa on the easterly side of Bristol-Oxford Valley Road. A 2,292-square-foot sidewalk easement and temporary construction easement is needed for the project, according to township attorney Lauren Gallagher. The board also granted authorization for PennDOT to access Levittown Parkway and Sexton and Spur lanes as part of a construction project.
